Lower Back Pain? Here’s Why

Almost everyone who has reached the age of thirty does it with a nagging ache in their lower back. For some people, lower back pain is a mere annoyance that can be banished with paracetamol. For others, it becomes a chronic issue that can really make their lives agony. No one should have to live like that, especially not when there are reasons behind the back pain. If there’s a reason, there’s usually a fix! 

Understanding why the pain is happening in the first place will help you to decide whether you need stretches or you need to see chiropractors regularly for help. Your back needs to be cared for because without it, you’re going to find it difficult to hold yourself up. Below, we’ve put together the top reasons you might be dealing with lower back pain.

  • You’re slouching. Bad posture is one of the leading causes of bad back pain. You might be sitting and slouching your back forward, and if you are, you’re going to really feel the difference. When you stand, walk and sit, you need to make sure that your spine is in the most neutral position possible. Excessive stress leaves your spine feeling heavy, sore and the muscles are aching around it. 
  • You’re lifting things incorrectly. Believe it or not, there is a wrong way to pick something up. You need to work on how you pick things up especially if they’re heavy. Bending at the waist to pick things up off the floor is a sure way to strain your back. Instead of doing things this way, you need to think about bending at the knees and lifting with your arms and protecting your back. You can pull your lower back if you’re not lifting correctly. 
  • Your muscles are weak. If the supporting muscles of your lower back are weak, then you need to think about whether you are working those muscles enough to strengthen them. Going to the gym can help you and you can protect and work on your core muscles when you do this. It’ll mean that you don’t have to think about tightness or spasms occurring when you’re just trying to live your life.
  • You’re not moving enough. Believe it or not, a lack of movement can really contribute to your back pain. You need to indulge in exercise or yoga to help you to strengthen your back and become more flexible. Sitting around with a lack of movement can cause the muscles to forget how to work and this can lead your body to stay in slow motion, which you are in charge of!
  • You’re getting older. Sorry to say it, but sometimes back pain is just a part of getting older and living your best life. Age related changes can really result in a loss of mobility and make you feel like you are falling apart a little! You don’t have to feel that way, though, not when you could be moving your body and feeling great!
