Moxie Girlz Magic Hair Colour Studio – Review and Giveaway

Last week, Sausage celebrated her 5th birthday and the awesome folks at Moxie Girlz decided that they’d like to send my special girl a very special present. She was super excited when a package for her arrived and was beside herself with excitement when she saw what was inside – her very own Moxie Girlz Magic Hair Colour doll! We were sent Avery, pictured below:

Moxie Girlz Magic Hair Studio Avery

As you can see from the photo, Avery comes with everything she needs to do some seriously funky stuff with her hair. As well as blue and pink clip in extensions, she has red and blue hair crayons (which slot into a little miniature pair of what look like hair straighteners, adding to the novelty value for the littlies), a brush, a tube of hair glitter and an applicator. As well as being able to use the accessories on Avery, all of them can be used on real hair too, a fact that it took Sausage about half a nanosecond to work out!

The colours wash out really easily (from Avery and Sausage’s hair!) and the glitter doesn’t make things too sticky so it can be brushed through if you don’t have time to wash it out. If I had one minor criticism, it would be that the hair extensions are held in the packaging looped over themselves, which means once they come out they stay curled up. It’s not too much of an issue as I just put them inside a tea towel and ironed them flat on the coolest setting, but it’s still a bit of a pain that they can’t be used properly right out of the box.

I’m definitely more a fan of Moxie Girlz than I am of Barbie – the body shape is a lot less extreme and the dolls just seems a bit more dynamic than the others on the market. Sausage absolutely adores her new doll. She’s been walking around with various bits of pink and blue in her hair for the last week and has played with the set pretty much every day since it arrived.

The good news is, not only did the lovely people at Moxie HQ give Sausage a set to enjoy, they have two sets to give away to my readers! Simply fill in the Rafflecopter widget below to be in with a chance of winning.

Paper Shaker: Review and Giveaway

Recently, the people from PaperShaker got in touch and asked if we’d like to try out their bespoke stationery service and with Sausage’s birthday coming up, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to make some Thank You cards for her to give to people who buy her gifts.

The site currently only offers baby announcement and thank you cards, adult and kids party invitations and various wedding stationery, but the cool thing about the site is that all of the cards are customisable, so I managed to make some beautiful thank you cards suitable for a 5-year-old to give out from the wedding thank you templates on the site. I added a gorgeous picture of Sausage that I took a few months ago and adjusted the graphics around the edge – here’s the result:

Aren’t they gorgeous? The photo is printed in really high quality too, so people could probably frame it afterwards, if they chose to.

We were even able to customise the text on the back of the cards, adding our own personalised message.

And now for the best bit – you could win your own set of PaperShaker cards too! I have three sets of cards with free p&p to give away, which you can design and customise yourself. All you need to do to enter is fill in the Rafflecopter widget below.

Hotter Shoes – Review and Giveaway

Hi. My name is Jayne. I’m a woman and I like shoes. I’m sorry if that statement upsets you or if this admission takes the sheen off of my feminist-lefty-pro choice exterior, but I can’t help that. I do have a few disclaimers to add though:

1. I like my shoes to look nice

2. Above all, they MUST be comfortable

Gone are the days that I teeter around all day long in 5-inch heels, my ankles just cannot take the pressure anymore and I’m not as…lithe as I was in my early 20’s. The problem I have it that most of the shoes that I find aesthetically pleasing are actually ankle-murdering, toe-binding, blister-forming nightmares and I have an awful habit of buying shoes (hello, 4-inch leopard print pumps bought for 25th birthday evening…) and wearing them only once or twice before vowing to never torture my feet in them ever again.

So, when I was offered a pair of Hotter shoes to try, having heard their reputation of style and comfort, I tried to remain open minded. These are the ones I chose:

The heel on the shoes is enough to elongate the leg and make me feel taller without being a such an oblique angle that all of the pressure is on the balls of my feet, which is a real bonus. I’m a big fan of wearing slightly muted clothes with a statement shoe and these really fit the bill and I have several outfits that I could wear them with too, so they get another 10 points for versatility. The shoes are of a really good quality too, which makes me sound a bit like my Nan, but the older I get the more stock I place on quality rather than ‘BUY ALL THE THINGS’ and have them fall apart in minutes.

The wedges have a cushioned sole, which added to the comfort factor and they’re slightly wider than your average fashion heel too, so there’s room for ALL of your toes, not just 60% of them whilst the others are squished to oblivion. All in all, these shoes are EPIC.

Now, here’s the fun part – You can win your very own pair of Hotter shoes too! Hotter have given Mum’s the Word readers a chance to win any pair of shoes from their current collection. Just fill in the Rafflecopter form below to be in with a chance of winning:

ANNNND, as if that wasn’t good enough, Hotter have been kind enough to give Mum’s the Word readers their own discount code, giving new customers 10% off of any full priced pair of shoes from the current range and free P&P on your order!

Just use the code PHAMTW at the checkout.
