A Song From Your Favourite Album

As usual, it’s hard for me to pick one favourite album ever, but this is definitely one of them, and the song is also my favourite from the album.

Your Romantic Song

One day, around Christmas 2006, Husband and I had my little sister over to stay. He’d been out with his friends and Emily and I had stayed in, watching films and having some sister-time. He got home quite late and had brought a Chinese in for us and we sat around, eating our takeaway, listening to random songs on the computer.

At one point, this song came on, and Husband turned to Emily and said “If I’d married your sister in this country, this is the song we’d have had as our first dance” (those of you who don’t know, Hubs and I got married abroad without our families there and didn’t have a first dance. Don’t feel sorry for us though, we did have a private dinner cooked and served to us on a beach in the Maldives, under the stars!)

Anyway, it was a moment of such sweetness and honesty that it’s always stuck in my head, and to me, this will always remind me of how wonderful my husband is.

(As usual, the record company are being really annoying, and you’ll have to go over to YouTube to listen)

A Song That You Hear Often on the Radio That You Love

Husband and I don’t listen to the radio very often, simply because we don’t have a decent radio. We’ve been promising ourselves a DAB for years, but never get around to buying one. When we do listen to the radio, it’s generally on the internet, and we end up listening to Magic at about 11pm! This is a song that we hear almost everytime we tune in, and it’s one I’ve loved since I was a kid.

A Song That You Used To Love But Now Hate

Anyone who worked in an office with a radio inĀ  2001 will know why I now cannot stick this song. Overplayed, much?!

A Song That No One Would Expect You to Love

I’ve been fairly vocal in the past about my criticism of The Beatles. I hate the way that die-hard Beatles fans think that there was no music before they formed, and has been no music since that wasn’t directly inspired by them. It’s naive and narrow minded to think that way, but yes, I will admit, the Beatles are an amazing band, and as I’ve grown up, I’ve come to love many of their songs.

This is probably my favourite Beatles song, although it’s difficult to pick just one, but it’s still a song that anyone who knows me would probably be surprised to find out I love.

A Song That’s a Guilty Pleasure

As much as I like to pretend I’m only into well-respected, credible bands, I have to admit I love a Diva. Not the behaviour as such (or the crack habit, a la Whitney, circa 2002), but the big hair, big voices and sparkly dresses.

Those who know me in real life will know that I once performed ‘My Heart Will Go On’ in a school show, wearing a blue crushed velvet and lace cocktail dress, at the age of 14. That should tell you everything you need to know!

This song is by one of the ultimate Divas, and was on an album that I got, along with a boombox, for my ninth birthday and I played that tape until it would play no more! I still love it to this day, it is my guilty pleasure.

Favourite Song from a Movie

I know that I featured a song from a movie yesterday too, but I think this has to be my favourite song from a movie. I adore the song in its own right but when it plays during the closing credits of the film of the same name it never fails to make me tear up. Such a briliant song, such a brilliant film.

A Song From Your Favourite Band

I’m going to cheat a bit here, as I used Everlong by Foo Fighters as my favourite song, and they are technically my favourite band, but I do find it hard to definitively name a favourite band ever, as there’s so many that I love.

So, I thought I’d choose a song from one of my favourite bands, Bob Seger and The Silver Bullet Band, which is played at the end of one of my favourite films, Mask (the Peter Bogdanovich one, not the Jim Carrey one!)

These things are good: ice cream and cake, a ride on a Harley, seeing monkeys in the trees, the rain on my tongue, and the sun shining on my face. These things are a drag: dust in my hair, holes in my shoes, no money in my pocket, and the sun shining on my face.
