6 Things You Need To Consider When Booking Your Wedding

Photo by Beatriz Pérez Moya on Unsplash

Although planning your wedding is an incredibly exciting thing to do, there are lots of little details you need to think of to ensure everything goes without a hitch. Whether you’re planning a small get-together for just your closest friends and family, or you’re planning a massive celebration bringing together everyone you know – ensuring you’ve prepared everything well in advance is vital to having the perfect day.

With that in mind, here are 6 things you need to think of when booking your wedding:

  • What Is Your Budget?

Before you start planning any aspect of your wedding you need to ensure you’ve set yourself a budget. This doesn’t mean setting one budget for the whole wedding but instead looking at things in more detail.

This will ensure that you’re not going to go over your budget before you’ve managed to book everything and put the final details into place. For advice on setting yourself a wedding budget, you can view this handy guide here.

  • Where Do You Want To Get Married?

Although most people choose to get married close to home, other’s prefer to book themselves a destination wedding. Whilst most choose to book their destination wedding on a glorious island, you can pick absolutely anywhere you like. Whether you want to get married in the Scottish Highlands, in a gorgeous American National Park or on a beach in Jamaica, you can make your wedding whatever you want it to be.

  • What Kind Of Venue Would You Like?

Once you’ve decided where you want to get married, you can start to think about your venue. Of course, you’ll need to think about your budget and how many people you want to attend, but the best way to decide which venue you want to book is to visit the venues firsthand. Once you’ve visited a couple you’ll be able to get a good idea of what it is you want, giving you more of a chance of making an informed decision.

  • What Time Of Year Do You Want To Get Married?

Depending on your budget you’ll have to choose whether you want to get married during peak wedding season or not. Whilst the latter is definitely cheaper, often it’s harder to get a hold of services like photography, catering or even a venue that offers a wedding package. Taking the time to work out which option is best for you will help you avoid any surprises during planning.

  • Will You Be Hiring A Band?

Once you’ve started to get the framework in place, you can start planning the details of your wedding, including whether or not you’re going to have a band. Whilst a lot of people opt for having a DJ at their wedding reception, hiring a band could be a great touch. For more information on hiring a wedding band, you can visit this site here.

  • What Kind Of Food Will You Have?

Another important decision to make when planning a wedding is deciding what kind of food you’re going to have. Whilst you can opt to have catering provided for your venue, some couples prefer to have something a little bit more personal. Whether that’s hiring food trucks or creating your own personal menu, you can tailor your food to you.

Ways To Surprise Your Partner this Valentine’s Day

With Valentine’s Day just two days away, many of us will be thinking about ways to surprise our partner on the most romantic day of the year. Husband is insanely good at buying me gifts and getting me little surprises, and I’m pretty rubbish by comparison. With that in mind, I thought I’d look at a few ways that you can surprise your partner and make Valentine’s Day special.

Personalised Gifts

Husband doesn’t like big flashy gifts, but in the past I’ve had personalised gifts made for him, like the ones that you can get from Card Factory. As well as nice photo cards, I’ve had mugs made, large collage canvases and a few other things, and they always go down a treat.

A Nice Meal

For us, Valentine’s Day should be about spending time together, so a nice meal is ideal as you get quality time to talk. We like eating out, but as I’m a keen cook, I also sometimes surprise Husband with a nice meal at home. I think the steak with home made Diane sauce from a few years ago went down well as it’s one which has been requested again since.

An Experience

I’ve never bought Husband an experience gift but I think it’s something he’d like, providing I chose the right thing! He’s a fan of Islay whiskies, and I’ve always wanted to whisk him up to the Hebrides to visit some of the distilleries where his favourite tipples are made.

A Blast from the Past

Husband was a big fan of his Nintendo N64 back in the day, but never managed to complete  Goldeneye 007 on the hardest setting before his console died, so I’d love to find him the game and console to play through again. I’ve been keeping an eye on eBay and as soon as something comes along at the right price, I plan to scoop it up.

Male Grooming

Husband is, undoubtedly, the best-groomed person in the house. He always makes sure he’s well turned-out and loves an old-fashioned safety razor and shaving brush combo. He’s got a bit of a collection, in fact, and I’d love to find a really good quality addition to his current selection.

Do you have any big plans to surprise your other half, this Valentine’s Day? Do leave me a comment below, I’d love to know how it went!

Saving for a family holiday? Read this first!

If you’re anything like me, chances are you’re already dreaming about your summer holiday. It might be the first of many or it might just be the one family treat that you all look forward to every year. We all deserve a summer holiday but saving and paying for one isn’t always as straightforward as we might like. From being bamboozled with deals and last minute options to choosing the location and how you’ll get there , to having enough money to spend when you get there, and not forgetting the whole new wardrobe the kids seem to need and all the other bits and bobs that you’ll end up paying for too…

I thought holidays were supposed to be relaxing! Well, if you’re already pondering how you can save a little extra money before your family holiday, look no further. You’ll find 4 of the simplest ways you can put a little money aside in the lead up to your well deserved break, and you may even end up being able to afford a limo to the airport!

Look at your energy supplier

It’s amazing how many of us still haven’t switched to a cheaper tariff! Whether you’re on domestic oil – for the latest oil prices check out emo oil – or gas an electricity, head online and see if you can get a cheaper deal elsewhere. Most energy providers do all the hard work for you and contact your current supplier too. You’ll be amazed at how much you’ll be able to put away just by switching. Try it now!

Stop your spending

No one deserves that new pair of shoes more than you, but if you’re saving for a family holiday then you need to kerb your spending a little. Try to avoid spending on additional purchases for about 2 months and you’ll notice a big difference in your bank balance. Things like takeaways, meals out, those jeans you really want or a new eyeshadow palette. Put them all on the backburner until after your holiday.

Learn to say no

It’s not easy to say no to the kids – especially when they’re being extra good. But learning to say no will certainly save you a bit of money. Saying no to those sweets or magazines that you usually treat them to, going out for tea – whether that’s at a fast food chain or a nice restaurant – even going out for the day. Instead of paying high prices for an afternoon at a theme park, look for places with free admission, or places of interest that ask for a donation rather than a fixed fee. They might not like it, but they’ll understand!

Don’t forget to set a budget

Make a list of everything you might need to save for. From the holiday itself, to the holiday clothes, toiletries, car hire, fuel money (if travelling in the UK), and anything else you can think of. Make a list and try to budget as best you can. You’ll find that you’re in more control when you’re heading around the clothes shops looking for holiday outfits!

Helping an Elderly Relative to Stay Independent

There comes a time in a lot of people’s lives where they need to start making arrangements to help their elderly relatives. A lot of people get older but want to remain in the home they’ve known for decades, and that means making their environment safe and suitable for their additional needs, if they have limited mobility, sight or memory problems. There are lots of ways that you can make a home suitable again, and today we’re looking at five of them.

Stairlift

If your elderly relative lives in a house with more than one storey, getting up and down the stairs can be really daunting. As well as the physical effort needed to climb the stairs, the risk of a fall gets worse as they get older. This is where a stairlift could really help. It allows people to travel safely between floors without the risk of falling, or needing to expend a lot of energy to make the climb.

Alarm System

A lot of elderly people worry about having a fall in their home and not being able to call for help, so personal alarm systems can give a lot of peace of mind. They allow people to call for help in an emergency and an ambulance to be sent remotely so that they aren’t left by themselves in an emergency.

Walk-in Bath

Although showers can be built on floor level so that you don’t need to step up to get into them, many elderly people prefer the security of sitting down in a bath, although getting into one can be very tricky. A walk-in bath has a sealed door which opens and closes and allows people to sit comfortably to wash, reducing the risk of slipping and falling when you’re at your most vulnerable.

Video Doorbells

Many elderly people fear opening the door to an unknown person, especially once the sun has gone down, and this can leave them very isolated, especially in the winter. There are lots of video doorbells on the market now which allow people to see who’s at the door without needing to answer it, and this could give your elderly relative the freedom to know when it’s safe to answer the door.

Remove Obstacles

This is the simplest, and cheapest way, to make surroundings safer for your elderly relative. Thousands of accidents happen every year when elderly people, especially those with limited eyesight, trip and fall because of things like rug edges, electrical cords and low items of furniture. It could be a good idea to get an expert to come in to assess the house as they’ll spot hazards that you might miss.
