Right ladies, listen up. I want to talk to you about knickers.

I don’t mean your lacy, frilly little unmentionables (though ‘little’ is an adjective that I’ve not applied to my undies is a LONG time…) I’m talking about your shapewear. Your industrial pants that you SQUEEZE into when you want to feel and look good. The kind of garment that gives you an idea of how it feels when the butcher forces the meat into the sausage skin.

I have two issues with shapewear. No, actually three issues. Firstly, it’s as ugly as sin, most of the time. Sure, it makes your clothes fit and fall that little bit nicer, but you sure as hell wouldn’t want anyone to actually see you wearing it! Secondly, it’s all very well making yourself look all slinky on a night out, but don’t expect your Husband to be able to *ahem* get into your shapewear very quickly. Disrobing is usually akin to trying to pull the skin off of a chicken thigh. And that’s just not sexy to anyone. (Unless you do find that sexy, in which case, do me a favour and seek help!) Thirdly, and this is a biggie, it’s bloody uncomfortable. Usually, you only have to move and the waistband rolls down, or the legs ride up, or it squashes your boobs flat and gives you an oddly square bust.

Now, given how I feel about all of this, I think I’m perfectly placed to review the new range of Trinny and Susannah shapewear. They’ve kindly sent me an ‘All in One Body Shaper’ to test, and so far, I’m impressed. When I got it out of the packet, I didn’t think I had a hope in hell of getting it on. In fact, it looked like it would be a good fit on Sausage! But, I got it on, and it fitted perfectly. I won’t lie, it took a good ol’ fashioned wiggle to get it on, but once you’re in, you’re in!

One thing that really struck me about the Body Shaper is that you can tell some thought has really been put into the design. It actually sits just below your bust, which means it doesn’t affect the shape of your chest, and the suitably slim straps are adjustable. There’s a band of slightly tighter elastic round the middle, which creates a nice waist (if you’re like me, and don’t actually have one!) and it gives a brilliant amount of support all over, leaving you feel nicely pulled in. It also has “and easy to open cotton gusset with double flaps that close automatically”…..which should clear up any questions about how to go to the loo whilst wearing it!

But here’s the amazing thing….it’s actually really comfortable! It’s not so tight that you feel like you’ll *spring* back up if you try to bend over, nor does it feel like its going to slip down and leave you doing that really unattractive ‘hiking your pants up’ motion that’d but the dampener on even the most romantic of evenings! It just gives you a reassuring, all-over squeeze, and I know I speak for many women when I can say that something as simple as that can makes all the difference to your confidence. Not only that, but it doesn’t look too bad. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not about to start doing the whole ‘underwear as outerwear’ thing in it, but it’s not quite as much like a wrestling costume as some shapewear!

Now, if you think I’m going to show you what I look like in my Body Shaper, you must have had something a little bit stronger than milk on your cornflakes, but Husband has promised me a night out to really test my new undies out, and I’ll be posting pictures of me in my frock, with and without the Body Shaper, so you can see the difference.

Until then, I can honestly recommend the Trinny and Susannah All in One Body Shaper, and suggest you invest in one if you’ve got the odd pound or two you’d like to forget about on your next night out!
